Cops: North Side Armed Robbers Targetting Lake View, Roscoe Village, Ravenswood

Chicago Police Department investigators are searching for two men who they have committed a string of armed robberies in the 19th District.

Chicago police are asking residents to help identify a pair of men behind a trio of North Side armed robberies in which culprits corner pedestrian victims by approaching them from behind.

The three incidents were reported between July 30 and Aug. 8 in the Chicago Police Department’s 19th District. The district provides police protection on Chicago’s North Side neighborhoods between the borders of Lawrence Avenue, Fullerton Avenue, the Chicago River and Lake Michigan.

In all incidents, two offenders have snuck up on their victims, who have all been walking on the sidewalk.

“The offenders approached the victims from behind, displayed a handgun and demanded property,” police said.

Police say they strike in the early morning hours.

The first offender is described as a black man who is between 17 and 25 years old. He is between 5 feet, 10 inches and 6 feet tall and weighs 140 to 170 pounds. Victims said he was wearing a black or blue and white striped hooded sweatshirt. The second robber is a black man of medium complexion in the same age range. He is slightly taller than 6 feet and weighs about 170 pounds. Victims said he was dressed in a black leather jacket.

The following are the time and date of the reported incidents:

  • At 1:05 a.m. July 21 in the 1500 block of West Altgeld Street.
  • July 21 at 1:15 a.m. in the 1500 block of West George Street.
  • July 27 at 11 p.m. in the 1300 block of West Grace Street.
  • At 4:08 a.m. July 30 in the 1200 block of West Belmont Avenue.
  • July 30 at 10:30 p.m. in the 4700 block of North Hermitage Avenue.
  • At 11:35 p.m. July 30 in the 1400 block of West Roscoe Street.
  • Aug. 22 at 10:45 p.m. in the 1700 block of West Cullom Avenue.

At 4:20 a.m. on July 30 in the 1600 block of West Roscoe Street, near the intersection of Roscoe Street and Ashland Avenue.

Shortly after 2:30 a.m. on Aug. 3 in the 3800 block of North Western Avenue, close to where Western Avenue crosses Irving Park Road.

In the 4700 block of North Campbell Avenue around 4:45 a.m. on Aug. 8, not far from the Western Avenue brown line stop.

Police say residents should report any suspicious people loitering in the area; spread the word about the crimes by notifying neighbors; and when necessary, dial 911 and provide detailed descriptions of offenders, including vehicle information.
