Girl’s Screams Scare Off Home Intruder:

MOUNT PROSPECT, IL — Police are trying to identify an alleged home invader who was caught by a security camera kicking in the door of a Mount Prospect home last week while a child was still inside. Screams from the child scared away the suspect after he tried to open the girl’s locked bedroom door, according to Mount Prospect police.

The suspect seen in the video released by police Sunday, July 30, is described as a white man with white hair, between the ages of 55 and 65. He was wearing a black baseball cap, sunglasses, a black T-shirt, black shorts and black shoes at the time of the break-in, police said. Police responded to a residential burglary call at around noon July 23 at a home in the 300 block of North William Street. When they arrived, officers spoke with the girl, who was upstairs in her room when the incident happened.

The child told police she heard knocking at the front door just before noon, but she didn’t answer. When she looked downstairs, she saw the suspect peering through the door’s window. The suspect continued knocking until the home security video shows him finally kicking open the door.

The girl told police she locked herself in her bedroom once the suspect was inside the house. He made his way upstairs, and the girl started screaming when he tried to enter her room, police said. The suspect then fled the house through the front door and headed north, according to police.
